Museum invites to summer “LONG FRIDAYS” and offers Guided Tours

Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation invites visitors to the summer “Long Fridays” in June, July and August, when the Museum is open from 12.00 to 19.00.

The Museum “Long Fridays” Guided Tours for individual visitors are offered every Friday at 14.00 – in English and at 17.00 – in Latvian. Gathering for the Guided Tours of “Long Fridays” and their starting point – in the Museum vestibule. The participation fee for the “Long Fridays” Guided Tour is EUR 12.00.

During June, July and August the Museum “Long Fridays” provide an opportunity to explore the permanent display and temporary exhibitions of the Museum until 19.00. The participants of the Museum “Long Fridays” Guided Tours will be able to discover the stories, facts and legends of Riga centuries and the Latvian navigation history showcased in the Museum permanent display, as well as add a dimension of knowledge viewing different unique artefacts in the Museum exhibitions.

Currently in the Museum on view is a permanent exposition in 14 halls and temporary exhibitions in the Large and Small Exhibition halls.

Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation, one of the largest and most significant repositories of  the cultural and historical heritage of  Latvia, is the oldest Museum in the Baltic States, as well as one of the oldest public Museums in Europe. The origins of the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation can be tracked back to the Himsel’s Museum (Himselsches Museum) founded by the Riga City Council in 1773. It was based on the private collection of naturale and art objects belonging to Riga doctor Nikolaus von Himzel (1729-1764) and was intended for the public view.
