Summer Guided Tours at the Museum

During June, July and August, we invite visitors to explore the museum’s permanent exhibition with a guide.

Guided tours for individual visitors will take place:

  • Tuesdays at 1:00 PM (in Latvian);
  • Thursdays at 1:00 PM (in Latvian);
  • Fridays at 5:00 PM (in English).

Meeting point and tour departure: the museum lobby.

Price: 10,00 EUR per person.

During the tours, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the story of Riga from its earliest beginnings to the present day, learn about the museum’s most significant exhibits, hear fascinating facts and legends about the city and its inhabitants, and gain a deeper understanding of one of Latvia’s most important repositories of cultural and historical heritage.

This summer the museum also continues its “Long Fridays” programme. On Fridays, the museum will remain open until 7:00 PM, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the permanent exhibition and temporary exhibitions at a leisurely pace after the working day.

Currently, visitors can view the museum’s permanent exhibition in 12 halls, presenting more than 800 years of Riga’s history, as well as the exhibition “Krišjānis Valdemārs. Latvian. Icebreaker.”

The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation is the oldest museum in the Baltic States and one of the oldest public museums in Europe. Its origins date back to 1773, when the Himsel Museum was established on the basis of the natural history and art collection bequeathed to the public by the Riga physician Nikolaus von Himsel.
