“Art Deco 2026” – exhibition of the group of artists

The exhibition of the group of artists “Art Deco 2026” at the Exhibition Hall of the Mentzendorff’s House is on view from September 5 to 30. Fourteen artists participate in the magnificent and diverse exhibition, exhibiting almost seventy works of art – paintings and decorations – whose creation was inspired by the brilliant style of the Art Deco era.

“The artistic trends that were formed at the beginning of the 20th century have not lost their relevance – their aesthetics still inspire modern artists, designers, architects and fashion designers. Colors – it is relaxation, they soothe the soul, delight the eyes, create satisfaction with oneself – a person is no longer a hostage to the accelerated pace of life, he is a creative personality! This is my main goal in life – to discover the creative potential in people,” says curator of the exhibition, artist Tatyana Gurbo (Anufrijeva).

The group of artists-associates of the exhibition includes professional painters, as well as creative personalities who work in various professions on a daily basis. They are united by positive creative energy, passion for artistic processes and the secrets of their cognition, proving the gift of color and joy of life to themselves and the world. The exhibition features: Tatjana Gurbo, Izolde Segale, Olga Belusa, Irina Shope, Ieva Ērgle, Zoja Roždestvenska, Natalya Vorobjova, Alesja Kolontaja, Valerija Govorova, Ludmila Vladimirova, Elena Mosheva, Alla Neganova, Larisa Aptere and Ieva Užga.

Art Deco embodies luxury, elegance and the dynamics of the era. It organically combines elements of neoclassicism and modernism with the influence of cubism, constructivism, neo-Gothic and other art movements. The style is characterized by a rich color palette, clear geometric shapes, expressive lines, as well as Ancient Egyptian, Japanese and other exotic motifs.

Art Deco became the artistic symbol of the so-called Jazz Age, expressing faith in progress and the future, emphasizing the desire for beauty, luxury and freedom, reflecting the atmosphere of external brilliance, optimism and joy of life of its time. The Jazz Age is called the 1920s, when this musical genre became popular in the USA and Europe, in many ways changing the lifestyle of society.

“In my paintings you can see all the elements of our world, which do not oppose the elements of human civilization, but mix and complement each other. There are still lifes, landscapes and compositions of objects. Different styles seamlessly merge with each other. This is a vision of the world that is infinitely diverse and permeated with interaction,” Tatyana Gurbo shares her thoughts.
