Contemporary Glass Art. Collection of the Mentzendorff House

The most significant part of the glass collection of the Mentzendorff House is on display for visitors. It consists of gifts from artists of different countries, of special interest being the works of the world luminaries of art glass. Among the represented artists is Marvin Lipofski (1938), pioneer of American glass design and master of flowing forms, his extravagant American contemporary Mark Eckstrand, artist of playfully tasteful kitsch, US philosophical thinker Michael Rogers (1955), internationally renowned Ukranian Andriy Bokotey (1938), virtuoso of the language of symbols, as well as Oleksandr Zvir (1953) who entertains the categories of the universe, and others. An important part comprises the works donated by Arnolds Vilbergs (1934), founder of the glass design department of the Latvian Arts Academy, and his students. The unique exposition of glass works forms a unifying link between the glaziers’ workshop that had operated in the building in the 17th-18th centuries, and the contemporary glass art activities at the museum.
